Wilton was selected to participate in a nationwide mural program called “50 in 50”. Mural artist Cheyenne Renee is painting 50 murals, in 50 small towns, across all 50 states by the end of 2025. The project focuses on small towns and small communities, highlighting only one location within each state. The artist will also be capturing the entire project for a documentary, as well as doing interviews and highlights of business owners and community members throughout the process.
The project also supports recent Wilton resident survey input on the need to make Wilton a destination and increase foot traffic for local businesses, as well as the recommendations from the original Wilton design charrette recommending public art and murals to enhance the downtown experience.
Cheyenne was in Wilton starting on October 10th, and with a few days of rain delay, finished up on October 16th. The mural stretches almost 50 ft high and required use of a large bucket truck. The location chosen was the side of the downtown Wilton Falls building, facing the police parking lot, which is very visible to anyone coming into downtown. The mural depicts a color rendering of the Wilton townscape, which was originally designed by local artist Gail Hoar and became the town’s official logo in 2020.
