Plans for the future Wilton Riverwalk unveiled!
Posted on 10/19/2019

On October 18th at Town Hall, an enthusiastic audience of about 35 residents attended an event to see the plans for the future Wilton Riverwalk.

Kermit WilliamsSelect Board Chairman Kermit Williams kicked off the event by talking about how important our rivers are to our history, commerce and recreation, and how a Riverwalk can re-connect us to all that our rivers have to offer.

Bob WhiteBob White, landscape architect from GPI then went through maps and drawings of the three sections of the Riverwalk, including:

North Riverwalk Section: Starting at the current Riverwalk, it will add a complete loop path which includes an overlook and pavilion by the Wilton House of Pizza, a new pedestrian bridge over the river and improvements to Memorial Park.

Main Street and River Overlooks Section: The Riverwalk will continue with an additional overlook and stairs to the riverside, then go past the front doors of our Main Street businesses and incorporate the current Main Street Park.

South Riverwalk Section: The Riverwalk concludes with additional plantings and a proposed riverbank walkway that goes around the Riverview Mills complex and parking areas, creating greenspace and stormwater treatment landscaping.

Jennifer BeckJennifer Beck, Chair of the Economic Development Team then concluded with a discussion of timelines, the process we will use to move forward, and a variety of funding sources. The first project will be a renovation of Memorial Park, as part of a local Eagle Scout project, which we hope to have concluded for Memorial Day, 2020.
