Wilton Community Center Meeting

September 27, 2017 at 7:00 pm

Community Room of Edgewater Estates, Wilton

 In Attendance - Board Members:  Joanna Eckstrom, Donna Crane, Stasia Millett, and Sandy Lafleur and  Edgewater resident, Judy Ganos 

Minutes of 8/30/2017 – Sandy moved to accept, seconded by Stasia.  All in favor, with Joanna abstaining as she was not at that meeting.

 Treasurer’s Report:  Joanna reported that our bank balance is about $7,900.  This does not include the $1,500 appropriation from the Town though the request for those funds has been made.

 Joanna requested receipts for recent events.

 Items Accomplished:

Successful Pickle Party at Edgewater on Sept 21.  Three WCC Board Member attended.  WCC supplied veggies, pickling materials, portable burner and snacks; participants brought their own jars.  Judy noted that a jar of pickles was made and given to someone unable to leave their apartment.

 (Judy agreed to be the contact person at Edgewater for The Blinking Light.)

 Upcoming Events:

September 30 – Farm to Table Dinner, Donna to host 2 Prep Parties at her house on the Thursday and Friday before at 6:30.  Bring a cutting board.  Stasia is doing the apple crisp.

 October 21 – Health & Safety Day.  This will be held at the Fire Station from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and will be free and family friendly.  At the time of this meeting, Fire, Police, Ambulance, Nashua Dept. of Public Health and People’s United Bank were all confirmed.  WCC to purchase 50 smoke detectors for Fire Dept. to give out along with guidance on placement.  Fire Dept will talk about the importance of a fire escape plan and the use of CO detectors.  Officer Frechette of WPD will cover bike safety for kids and adults.  Ambulance service will do free BP checks, will do CPR and First Aid demos and show their ambulance equipment.  Public Health will hold an Immunization Clinic – mostly flu shots, also shingles and pneumococcal.  People’s Bank will present at 1:00 – Avoiding scams and fraud.  *** Since this meeting I’ve been in contact with Tick Free NH and have been given coloring books, tick ID cards, and tick removal spoons.  I also have a PP slide show that can run unaided and “Tick Talk Rap”, a recording used by Public Health Depts. across the US.

Discussion about publicity.  Sandy to do flyers, get them printed and posted.  Joanna to check with Town Hall, Lions for Rte 101 sign, and Fire Station sign for posting of this event.

 October 28 -  Haunting of Wilton.  Stasia has arranged for Stone Riley to tell stories that afternoon

 2017 Fundraising EDDM – Donna to draft something and send to Board members.  This will be mailed out in November.

 December 9 – from 10:00 – noon  Holiday Centerpiece Workshop at the Library.  People will sign up with the Library.  Materials cost is $6.00.  Left over materials and supplies will be used for a workshop at Edgewater the following week – date not yet determined.

 Other Edgewater events:  Sandy asked Judy to poll residents to see what they are interested in doing.

 December Luminaria date: Usually this is the Sunday before Christmas but this year Christmas is on a Monday so Christmas Eve is that night.  More likely Sunday, Dec. 17?? 

 Beekeeping workshop in January or February.

 There was brief discussion about Period Re-enactments of Wilton personages and a program on deaf culture by Jan Mellen but no decisions were made.

 Stasia moved to adjourn, Sandy seconded.  All in favor.  Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
